## How to use this calculator?

- Enter the
**Total Distance**in the chosen unit (e.g. miles). - Enter the
**Total Time**in hh:mm:ss format (e.g. 01:30:00 for 1,5 hour). - Get your results from the
**Average Speed**field. If needed, adjust the speed unit.

## How to calculate Average Speed?

Divide the Total Distance by the Total Time expressed in the appropriate units.Average Speed [mph] = Total Distance [miles] / Total Time [hours]

**Example 1:**Calculate the average speed of a vehicle that traveled 140 miles in 2 hours, 30 minutes and 15 seconds.

First, let's convert the time to hours:

30 minutes = 0.5 hours

15 seconds = 15/3600 hours

**Total Time** = 2 hours + 0.5 hours + (15/3600) hours

**Total Time** ≈ 2.50417 hours (rounded to five decimal places)

Now we can calculate the average speed:

**Average Speed** = Total Distance / Total Time

**Average Speed** ≈ 140 miles / 2.50417 hours

**Average Speed** ≈ 55.94 mph (rounded to two decimal places)

The average speed of the vehicle is approximately 55.94 miles per hour.
